Match Report
Leicester Grammar School 1st XI vs  Princethorpe College
On: Tuesday, 10 Sep 2019
Venue: Away

Leicester Grammar 1st XI hockey team faced Princethorpe in our first away game of the season. In the opening ten minutes, our transfers were not as efficient as we had hoped and some scrappy defending in the D lead to a penalty flick being awarded to our opposition. Princethorpe managed to score their flick which gave us a greater sense of urgency. We managed to get our heads back in the game and started to gain more possession further up the pitch. Chiara Bensi made a spectacular run, dribbled around the goalkeeper and pushed the ball into the goal with ease to equalise the score. At half time, we emphasised our key aims for this game in the team talk and started the second half positively. Another goal was scored by Chiara Bensi who did well to keep the ball in play and managed to slip the ball in the left corner of the goal at a very tight angle. With the score being so tight, we knew we had to remain calm and not let our standards of hockey drop. In the last ten minutes, we felt relieved as the rebound ball from the keeper fell to Emily Kendall who pushed the ball into the goal. The game ended in a 3-1 win to Leicester Grammar. Thank you to Mrs Laybourne for coaching us.
