Match Report
Leicester Grammar School 1st XI vs  Wellingborough School
On: Tuesday, 19 Nov 2019
Venue: Away

Leicester Grammar 1st XI hockey team played Wellingborough School away. At half time, the score was 1-1 with our goal being delivered from a strong strike into the bottom left hand corner by Chiara Bensi. Sian Brewin made some great clearances in goal, the defence worked well together to transfer the ball across the back and the forwards worked hard to pressurise the Wellingborough transfers. After half time, Chiara scored again as Anna Chapman and Libby Haward worked the ball around the D. Wellingborough equalised for the second time and in response to this, Chiara Bensi struck the ball from another great angle to get her hattrick. The score was now 3-2 to us. Several short corners were awarded to Wellingborough meaning our defence had to work hard to sprint out to the top of the D. However, a well worked corner from Wellingborough meant they were able to equalise for the third time. Leicester tried hard to not let the game slip but unfortunately, another goal from Wellingborough meant they were able to get ahead before the final whistle. Although we were frustrated with the 4-3 loss, it was a well contested game and we were able to take lots of positives away from this match. Thank you to Mrs Laybourne for coaching us and to Miss Hazelwood for umpiring.
