Match Report
Leicester Grammar School 1st XI vs  The Queen's School, Chester
On: Wednesday, 06 Nov 2019
Venue: at Home

Leicester Grammar 1st XI hockey team hosted The Queen’s School Chester in round 2 of the national cup plate. The very wet conditions did not hold us back as Harriet Prior found the back of the net after the ten minutes and we continued to dominate possession for most of the first half. However towards the end of the first half, we gave away several short corners that led to a period of attacking play from the opposition. At half time, the score was 2-1 to the Queen’s School. Knowing that we would be frustrated if we walked away with a loss, we started the second half positively with Libby Haward and Anna Chapman working as a unit upfront, eventually resulting in a goal scored by Anna Chapman from a lifted push into the net to equalise the score. Anna Chapman then scored another as she perfectly timed a deflected cross from Emily Kendall into the goal with a fantastic touch. However, Chester did not back down and some great defensive teamwork between Francesa Jones, Anna Kendall and Caitlin Geraghty meant that we were able to break down their attacks. With ten minutes to go, a face injury to a Chester player meant the opposition were a player down. We felt relieved when Harriet managed to score a 1v1 with the goalkeeper to secure the win. The score was 4-2 to Leicester Grammar, meaning we progress through to the next round. Thank you to Mrs Laybourne for coaching us.
