Director of Rugby report - 15th Sep

The 1st XV progressed to the next round of the Schools’ Vase with a victory over Bablake on Wednesday. The first half was somewhat nervy and at the break the game was in the balance. LGS then found their feet and scored several unanswered tries to break Bablake’s resolve. The weekend then saw a significant test against Langley School, where despite a solid first 20 minutes, the power and handling of the oppositions outside backs resulted in a one-sided contest. Elsewhere, the U12 and U13 B teams travelled to Bedford Modern and recorded big wins which bode well for the season ahead. Our U14s and U15s performed with heart and commitment, particularly in their respective second halves, against organised and talented Langley sides but the performance of the weekend came from Mr Davies and Mr Allen’s 2nd XV. In a fiery encounter, aggressive defence and silky handling saw LGS win the game at the death 17-14. Jai Kumar, Nahbi Odeh and Alastair Milner all impressed in a superb team effort. We now focus on the next round of the Vase against Welbeck and a weekend block for all age groups against Princethorpe this week.
