Director of Rugby report - 29th Sep / 6th Oct

A very busy fortnight for school rugby saw fixtures against Bablake and Nottingham High School, as well an U15 Schools' Vase game against Kibworth. The Bablake block was fiercely contested in most year groups, with the Under 15s putting in their finest LGS performance and narrowly losing out 21-15. Both Senior sides were convincing winners however our Junior sides found their opposition bigger and stronger in most areas of the field. Our U12 sides played some outstanding rugby in physical competitions which resulted in their first victories, 25-20 and 35-0 respectively.

The Schools' Vase 1st round then awaited the U15s and poor discipline and lack of composure saw them trail at the break. A much more composed second half saw them take control and some excellent scores enabled us to narrowly win the game 22-17 and now face Welland Park Academy on the first Monday back after half term.

A wet and windy day in Great Glen and Nottingham was not conducive for flowing rugby, but several teams did LGS proud. Our 2nd XV turned a first half deficit around away from home and our U12s gave Mr Potter his first win against Notts High ever! Our Junior and B teams, despite brave performances, were outclassed and the 1st XV also had a day to forget, losing a very winnable game 29-10 after an Oli Walls try in the first minute had put us ahead. Captain Sam Eveleigh was outstanding throughout and set a fine example to all. We now look ahead to tonight's U18 Schools' Vase 3rd Round game against William Shakespeare's school, King Edward's, Stratford this evening which has a 5pm kick off here at LGS. All support is welcomed.
